Sirio-LX

Sirio-LX is an automatic system for preventing trains from colliding with obstacles on the track at level crossings. It uses short range high resolution radar to detect obstacles and provides warning to approaching trains via the existing signaling system.

Monitoring of the crossing area commences when the crossing’s boom gates (or similar devices) are closed in advance of an approaching train. Objects which have entered the area before or whilst the gates were closing are detected and their presence immediately communicated to the railway company’s signaling system. Typical obstacles detected are vehicles or objects dropped from passing vehicles. The radar is capable of detecting objects as small as a cube with sides of 1.0m without false alarms.
